Meet Haley Escobar
Haley Escobar, junior at Greenfield High School, was awarded a $5,000 Girls Inc. Lucile Miller Wright Scholarship.
Haley has been part of Girls Inc. since elementary school, beginning her journey in the Growing Together program alongside her mother. Today, she is a Girls Inc. Intern who brings compassion, creativity, and leadership to every group she works with. Her experience reflects how Girls Inc. nurtures confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging. She shares: “What I gained the most from Girls Inc. over the course of several years is that I learned I already fit in with any group or place I join. I am okay as I am with the changes I choose to make: show confidence, voice my ideas, and show gratitude. The support from Girls Inc. during my challenging periods of sadness helped me grow and see the positive sides of a negative situation.
Before I became an intern, I volunteered an elementary school helping another intern. It was interesting to see how the 5th graders were taught the same information I was taught at that age. That time in the classroom gave me strategies that I now use as an intern in my ECHO group. I look forward to my next intern job with 7th graders. Previous mentors have already told me the middle school students like to be on their phones; thus, I have been keeping a list of activities to maintain their interest and not let those phones surface.
Girls Inc. gave me tools to share what I gained through the program. I am joyful teaching other girls how they can become strong, smart, and bold.”
