About Girls Inc. of the Central Coast
Girls Incorporated of the Central Coast is an affiliate of the Girls Incorporated national organization, the nation's leading research and evaluation organization on issues pertaining to girls and young women. We work with girls ages 8 to 18 with proven "girl-focused" programs at our outreach sites established at schools throughout Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties. Girls Inc. of the Central Coast has grown to serve over 1,300 girls in 30 schools in 7 cities.
As the oldest girl-centered organization in the United States, Girls Inc. has been transforming girls' views of themselves and their opportunities for generations. Girls Inc. of the Central Coast is much more than an after school program. We help girls succeed.
Girls Inc. of the Central Coast delivers a constellation of programs that focus on leadership and self-empowerment. These programs offer girls specific knowledge regarding health, risky behaviors, healthy relationships, and academic pursuits, while developing leadership, goal setting and decision-making skills. Beyond these basic elements, Girls Inc. has developed components of each program that offer young women the opportunity to be leaders, role models, teachers, mentors and activists.
All programs are conducted after school at school sites, eliminating any difficulties with transportation for the girls and young women.
Girls Inc. of the Central Coast is the first affiliate in the country to offer programs totally facilitated by teens. Teen graduates from our high school program return as paid youth leaders to facilitate all of our programs. They are confident, strong, and passionate about going back to their communities as role models for younger girls. They are hired as facilitators for programs aimed at younger girls – a model for leadership that not only provides these young women with practical skills and experience, but allows us to reach a broad spectrum of girls.
To inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold and to respect themselves and the world around them.
